BACKGROUND AND PROBLEM


This idea came into existence after talking to the founder of this particular trust http://www.saichaitanyatrust.org/ on seeing the website you can see that its very basic , doesn't make an impact on the web. Hence will never bring in large donations.

Its the same case with most of the other smaller orphanages, old age homes , NPO, schools for blind, mentally challenged and other social work organizations who do a lot of great work to the society but their work never is publicly know .. its very localized ..

Most of the organizations don't know the others, this leads to inability to share and use resources for common tasks or larger impact.

One more thing is if an volunteer wishes to participate the is no possibility of doing so without explicit knowledge or connection with the organization. It would be the same for people to start or who already worked for similar causes elsewhere and have relocated. No place that shows the requirements of these organizations like time , specific task etc.

IDEA

A sort of a networking website (non-profit) linking several local social organizations, providing them the needed online media penetration (advertisement), visibility . Also for those who wish to donate/help (volunteer) a single point of contact with the activity of the locality and organizations. The idea has to reduce the overall overheads and cost for these organizations along with increasing their impact and coordination.


Possible Features of the website

Visibility for local organizations
Non-Profit (might run on ad’s or donations like wikipedia ?)
Online donations to the organizations? (sort of a paypal system, with each organization having their own accounts)
Transparency in the system
Fund raising events (area wise games, activities etc) / sponsors
org’s can sell products local market (address and contact details) and online (via common ebay account)


Possible Design spec for website

Wiki page style design with location based information
Google Maps based search, for orgs in and around a place
Use existing server farms (YouTube, Picasa etc) for storing data since this is non-profit. (read individual terms carefully - someone has to do this)

I had given the orphanage the idea of apprenticeship for the kids, As i found out from them that of the 60 kids there around 10 are really interested in studies, 40 are indifferent while 10 more are not, but most of them are really good at other things like gardening or fixing simple switches etc. So , the idea was to send the kids of various ages to specific places to develop skills and knowledge in that field like metal works for elder kids, carpentry, gardening, plumbing, crafts etc for an hour or two every week/day as permits, this would give the children skills along with knowledge of the work. Its direct impact would be the orphanage need not go to professional for simple fixing of things around the orphanage and second and importantly the kids when they grow up and would like to pursue other dreams (studies, writers or what ever they want to be) then these skill will help them , they could work parttime and pursue their dreams. lastly, who knows if they are creative we could have the next Picasa well maybe not Picasa but some really highly skilled workers who can produce works in International level. Then the school/orphanage could reach out to people who can help them setup a business for such endeavours. This idea they were very interested in ,also they knew a lot people who were ready to teach their skill to the kids. So, this one could start this year.

Such systems could already be existing in other organizations, if the organizations/students/teachers/ volunteers agree then exchange of students/teachers/ volunteers could happen for the benefit of each other and we can make that happen through the website.

With the transparency model adapted the authenticity of the organizations increases drastically and as the donations can be seen in the finances there will be tracking of the utilization of funds. This way we could enter international fund raising events and also prove to them the direct impact of any funds directed to the registerd organizations on the website.

Service 1


The local marketability of goods can be done by volunteers or maybe just one organization takes the task of doing the sale in the whole localized market. Bring volunteers to collect the items/or deposit them at the organization that has taken up the task in a particular area.. Then they can get them sold through events, like visiting a tech park (This they do allow in the IT parks), public places/events etc or other standard sale locations.

Doing mass purchasing of farm produces/ other resources on a regular basis , reduces cost by quite a lot.

For materials that are necessary, as they would be put up on the website , if many organizations have the same request we could actually request organizations by showing them the requirement (and maybe give them ad space on the pages of the organizations they help) to come forward and provide then a subsidized rate both as it would be a bulk purchase and also because it would be for a social cause.

Plan 2

Ensure that there would be a reduction in cost of purchase of food supply and there by effective day to day operation cost.
Suppose one of the partner group (or our representative) is in rural sector they could acquire all the monthly needs of an orphanage and oldage homes directly from the farmers.

Or farmers/villages could come forward themselves to sell the produce at a rate that they decide, this will give the organizations options to choose from to get the high quality produce for a cheaper rate while the farmers get a better value for their produce.

A friends family is currently doing direct sale of their produce in Bangalore (maybe all over karnataka) by closed referral model and has completely eliminated the middle men. They are getting a much better rate but not a huge market due to various reasons.

This website would also like to help in this cause. Need to ensure quality and authenticity of the farmers/ villages. Ideas here ?

Combined Medical camps for all the organizations in the locality, very beneficial and effective for the medical group as well as the organizations.

Service 4

Combing the social activities of the area into a combined organized events would reduce costs of setting it up as well as effective publicity and impact. ex a blood camp, with stalls of the organizations or meeting etc.

Its basically combining 4-5 and expanding it. Sharing of resources among the organizations. Example vans, buses, halls etc as a few organizations have these facilities they could loan then to others or share them.

User content like vdo´s and pics uploaded on youtube, picasa or other such free places and are directly embedded into the organization space. so its simple on the organizations end to update data .

we should provide information space and donation link to each organization reduced therefore reducing their burden of a website maintenance as most are not computer savy.

The story …


Scene :

A family .. the father a employee, mother a home maker by choice and kids.

Story:

The family with time has changes .. kids grow up and have started their own career. Mom´s responsibilities have decreased a lot. the family has in every way grown in terms of financial stability, assets, status ..etc

Everyone inherently would like to add more meaning to life, to leave an impression of their living.
The best way to do it is by leaving that mark on others lives. Coming back to the story .. Mom is free and would like to do many things but would not want to start a corporate career but would like to be part of something that is able to change or help many others with whatever time she can spare.

DadÅ› financially stable enough to part with a small part of the wealth for becoming a part of something else apart from work, but doesn't have enough time to spend.

The kids who as smart as they are pushing the frontiers of something and are in tune with the latest technology and things.

So all in all a Typical family is equipped enough to see a better tomorrow.
Imagining this story with the even the minority families of the society gives an unexplored opportunity to create something awesome.

THE PROJECT PROPOSAL

OK from here on all the content in the format to submit an idea in the http://www.sparktherise.com/ website. The aim is to be able to submit the project under the Social Entrepreneurship group and be judged the Project Champions. Which would enable the project with the initial seed money to start the project.

The project will be most probably entered into the contest by the Orphanage mentioned.

There are dedicated people who have devoted their time and resources to fulfill their dream of seeing a better tomorrow than the one today not just for themselves but for others. What the idea would like to do is bring them together to create a process to realize that dream.

To align organizations and individuals with similar interests to come together and share resources and expertise.
for examples : there are many orphanages, oldage homes, non-profit organizations and volunteers who currently hold various resources that could be shared like the people in the oldage home could help teach the kids at the orphanage, the non-profit organization could provide information and help in regard to scholarships, cheaper and quality product purchase.

All in all when all the groups pitch in their expertise they could better execute their current activities and also coordinate with the others. giving them a larger impact area and better utilization of resources. Including volunteers, teachers, tools etc.

How will this help them ?

As normal people who wish to help come forward they generally restrict themselves to a particular group or location or organization. we could change that by making a database of all partners and volunteers who wish to participate, in which way they would like to contribute.
therefore all the organization or the volunteer needs to do is reach us and they would know all the activities currently being performed by various participants and their requirement and can pitch in.
This makes sure we can use technology to reach out and make sure there is no loss of communication. As its a huge problem. Many orphanages , oldage homes, NPOs, blood camps have events they go through painstakings media methods to reach out but most of the time cannot fulfill their need. this could be completely avoided also builds credibility and history of each participant. therefore making them more susceptible for future help.
the sharing of resources could be transfer, loaning of tools, furniture , books, teachers among the organizations.
ex : yoga teacher at old age home could spare some time to do a short course at orphanage, at construction time one organization could borrow tools from another, books could go on rotation among them etc.
There are many other projects out there that involve bettering the lives of the less privileged. we could like to give them a platform to implement their strategies and tie-up with various participating organizations easily.
common health camps could be conducted for all the participates in the area.

PROJECT EXECUTION PLAN

Project tasks :

1. Start talking to various volunteers, orphanages, old age homes, NPOs on a possible implementation and coordination plan.

2. start an online system to provide proof of the contributions of each participant and provide a system for new members to signup.

3. Ensure the collaboration between the participants and incorporate an open system to discuss better methods, approaches and strategies.

4. keep the system clean from being misused in any way and valid to ensure trust of all partners.

What do I have already?

We currently are an organization which has an orphanage, a day care for mentally challenged and would like to start an old age home.

we have many volunteers who are interested in helping in our locality.
